Dental Assisting: A Day In The Life
Whether you're attending our course, thinking about enrolling, or still on the fence about whether dental assisting is right for you, chances are you'd probably like to know what your work day would look like as a dental assistant. The truth is, every day is different! That being said, here are some things that most dental assistants expect in a typical day.
In an office, the dental assistants are the front line and they make patients feel comfortable. This is the same no matter where the office is located or how big it is! It will be your job to greet new and existing patients and also recall them (schedule and confirm appointments). You'll likely spend time in the front desk area doing this, as well as checking patients out and working with their billing and insurance. The dental assistant will take the doctor's words and reiterate them to the patients in a digestible way.
Other duties include:
- X-Rays
- Helping with cleanings
- Assisting the dentist during procedures
- Taking impressions and trimming them
- Oral hygiene instruction
- Cleaning and prepping operatories between patients
As a dental assistant you'll be working hand-in-hand with the doctor and learning something new every day! You'll stay busy and the days will go by quickly.
